Iron Man vs Magneto

Why, Marvel? Iron Man vs. Magneto? Did we miss the part where Iron Man's suit is made out of metal? Are we delusional to recall Magneto throwing, crushing, bending and in all ways manipulating metal all day like a boss? What's the freakin' DEAL?

It's happened before, and I dug up a few panels to see what writers of the past have done. Typically, nothing. They fight a bit in the air. Energy blast here, energy blast there. They tumble to earth and live to fight another day.

In a panel from AvX #2, the caption claims "Man in a metal suit versus the mutant master of magnetism. If you think this is no contest, then you don't know Tony Stark."

Does this mean something creative and interesting? How could a man in a metal suit best the master of magnetism? If it's not just a clever name and the suit really is made with Iron, it's pretty much *the* most magnetic metal too.

So what if it's not iron, perhaps? Some metals are non magnetic ... but a lead suit probably isn't a good call. Tony has certainly built a bunch of suits for different occasions, so could he have something up his sleeve?

Here's a preview of their fight:

Or, you know, they could throw blue stuff around at each other.

But it gets you thinking; what would it take for Iron Man to beat Magneto?

Catch up on some AvX: 0, 1, 2.

UPDATE: (SPOILER ALERT!)

So it happened something like this:

WHAT?

First of all, I have it on good authority that siphoning magnetic fields from Jupiter is a little hard to believe. (More on that in another soon to come post!)

But fine, fine, it's Tony Stark, he's rich, money can buy unbelievable. But Magneto just kind of ... gets depressed and floats around in space, so Iron Man wins? THAT SUCKS. Fingers crossed for Scarlet Witch Pink Phoenix Powers somewhere along the line.

  1. Whoever wrote this little blog knows nothing of Iron man, nor marvel comics for that matter, no his suit has never been made out of iron, and given that he has actual prep time, which I believe Tony Stark could beat almost anyone given the prep time, this one was Iron man's match looong before it happened.

    1. You're confusing Iron Man with Batman. Magneto should have destroyed him. In fact,he was about to until pis kicked in. He stops fighting because he's sad? What a bunch of crap.

    2. >"No suit has ever been made out of iron" - except, you know, his first suit. As time has moved on, they've gone in different directions for materials, many of them containing iron or iron alloy. Other materials have included steel, titanium alloy, carbon, depending on the suit. Nowadays there is all kinds of fancy science to rely on like nanotech and whatnot, but Magneto doesn't have to rely on the suit to have metal in it, as the comic shows. There's metal everywhere. As the second poster pointed out the fight ends because Magneto starts to have a pity party out in space.
